He gambled on love once; the stakes are higher now.
England 1803: Troy Beaumont, sole heir to the Earl of Whickerton, once took a gamble on love and ended up with a heart in arrears. Now, driven by duty and the whispers of society, he contemplates a marriage of convenience, setting aside his family's fairy-tale ideal of marrying for love. He'd much prefer the life of a bachelor, but knows duty calls louder than desire. The question isn't just whom to marry, but can he marry without love?
She thought her heart was dead; she was wrong.
Lady Leonora, better known as Nora, survived a loveless marriage only to be branded a widow. Her heart, once bustling with youthful dreams, now feels like a quiet spectator in her life—until fate shoves her right back in front of the very man who once held its reins.
Thought he was done with love? So did he.
Their surprise reunion sparks more than just old friendship. Troy's once composed heart can't help but recall the melody of Nora's laughter, and the mischievous twinkle in her eye tempts him to reconsider the notion of love.
Nora, feeling her heart skip and stumble, wonders why it chooses now to dance again, especially when a future together seems fraught with complications. After all, Troy needs an heir, and she cannot provide one.
Once friends, once more. Is third time the charm?
InD'tale MagazineThe love scenes are tastefully done and romantic. Fans of Regency romance will enjoy the familiar nuances of the book, as well as the touch of whimsy added by Edie's efforts to aid in her family's happiness.
★★★★★RebeccaThis whole series has been a joy to read. The characters are full of life. The relationships do not always go smoothly. But love triumphs in the end.
★★★★★Sher ParkerThis series has just kept getting better book by book and for me this one was the BEST of them so far! At times I cried and felt just so uncomfortable that I was stressed out but I kept reading and this wonderful author Bree Wolf took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride to what I THOUGHT was going to be the end of this series! I'm so glad it's not!

Another beautiful story by this intrepid author. I loved the previous books in this series but this one blows the others out of the water. Troy and Nora are such fabulous characters that you struggle to understand why they separated five years ago. Secrets & misunderstandings along with some twists and turns kept my interest from start to finish. I thought that Grandma Edie was wonderful! This is a fantastic story that you don’t want to miss, but it helps to have read the earlier stories, in order to understand the Whickerton family members.
Another wonderful story from the Whickerton family as the oldest son finally gets his story.
An unexpected kiss had opened their eyes to their real feelings for each other but she was getting married to another man. A letter gone astray had altered the chance at happiness between two childhood friends.
For five long years Troy Beaumont the only son of the Earl of Whickerton could not forget the kiss that had changed his life. The woman he loved was the wife of another and he had to force himself to go on doing his duties for his family. Troy has watched all of his sisters marry and knows that the time is coming for him to choose a wife. When he discovers that Lady Lenora has returned home after the unexpected death of her husband, will they be given a second chance at love?
LADY LEONORA—or NORA—married the man she was betrothed to after that wonderful kiss with her childhood friend Troy. She would have broken her betrothal to be with him had he only asked but she had never heard from him and he was absent from her wedding ceremony. She has lived a life of regrets with an unfaithful husband not being able to give him an heir. Now she has returned home freed from that life. Meeting Troy while out horseback riding has brought back all of her old feelings but she must deny herself for his future.
So many unexpected secrets were revealed in this story. Finding out that Grandma Edie again was involved behind the scenes was not a surprise but how much she was involved was unforeseen. There's drama and suspense as some are working to get them together and another is meddling to keep them apart.
This is a clean story but there is a closed door premarital scene that takes place.
I received a copy of this book form the author and this is my honest unbiased review.
If at all possible, this story was even more angsty than the previous one and in this one we have Nora and Troy either trying to deny their love for each other or trying desperately to bring it out into the open.
It is such a nicely written tale and all the characters in the Whickerton family are just so warm and loving that you can help but love them.
Quite a few secrets were explained by various characters and leading up to their telling is what this story is about.
I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) and my voluntary review above is unbiased.
One kiss changed everything but too late to stop Nora marrying another. Now Nora is a widow but Troy is loath to risk his heart again and in Nora’s mind there is an insurmountable problem to their ever being together. However neither of them have taken Grandma Edie into account!
A friends-to-more romance between Troy Beaumont, Earl of Whickerton, and Lady Nora who grew up together and were friends until their first kiss. Unfortunately, that kiss occurred just before Nora married another. Neither of them can forget that kiss or each other. Nora returns home after her husband dies, runs into Troy at the place of their first kiss. Troy had a way of pushing others away and holding them at arm's length; he filled the title of Earl of Whickerton well. He watched his sisters all marry, and the Whickerton household was filled with family. But he wanted more. Nora and Troy reacquaint secretly, fall deeper in love, but she cannot marry him because of a secret she holds. But then what she thinks to be "impossible" happens! A wonderful swoon-worthy love story. I enjoyed becoming reacquainted with previous family members and friends, new babies born, and--most fun of all--Grandma Edie! A delightful Regency romance! I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review. I'm looking forward to the mysterious Keir MacKinnear's story soon!
Delightful story! I enjoyed finding out about how Charles Whickerton and Beatrice came together. Beatrice has found herself in a situation where she may be forced, by her parents, to marry a much older man. When Charles first meets her, he is determined to make her his own. This is a beautiful, romantic tale and I highly recommend it.

Beautiful second chance love story. Grandma Edie is at it again but this time it is Christopher and Juliet who find their lives turned upside down. Secrets and misunderstandings abound between this wonderful couple. I really enjoyed this book.
Beautifully written storyline which was difficult to put down. The characters, Harriet and Bradley, have very different outlooks on life which sometimes clash with Society’s ‘rules’. This is one book you don’t want to miss.
