She writes the unwritten …

England, 1802: Daughter to the EARL OF WHICKERTON, Lady Leonora has an insatiable curiosity about the human condition. At every ball and social event, while others dance and flirt, Leonora observes, her trusted notebook in hand. She is captivated by the silent language of glances and gestures, recording the subtle tells of human nature. But her keen interest in the unspoken soon teaches her a chilling lesson: not all smiles are friendly, and the greatest deceits are dressed in charm.

… he rights the wrongs.

Haunted by his past and cloaked in regret, Drake Shaw, Marquess of Pemberton, leads a dual existence. By day, a gentleman; by night, a vigilante, targeting dishonorable men who escape justice. His life is a ceaseless quest for redemption, driven by the shadows of his mistakes. Drake's world is black and white until he meets a young lady who colors it with intrigue. Leonora, vulnerable yet undeniably brave, disrupts his vendetta, making him question if revenge is truly what his heart desires.

When curiosity meets vengeance, the real story begins.

When Leonora's curiosity draws her into danger, crossing paths with Drake’s underworld of revenge, both must confront their inner demons. Drake finds himself protecting the very spirit he admires, while Leonora learns that the most compelling stories are found not in her notebook, but in living them.

A leap of faith: all or nothing.

Together, they must navigate a perilous society where secrets abound and trust is a rare commodity. As they draw closer, they discover that understanding human nature might just be the key to unlocking their own hearts. Will their joint journey through darkness lead them to light, or will old enemies and familiar fears dictate their fate?

Drake cleared his throat, preferring for the topic of the conversation to remain far away from his own personal affairs. "My reasons are my own. I am offering you my help, and of course, you have every right to refuse."

Instead of accepting or refusing his help, Lady Leonora asked, "And if you should discover his name, what will you do then?"

Pushing off the wall, Drake pulled back his shoulders, his hands linking behind his back. "You know what I will do," he told her calmly, feeling his pulse starting to beat wildly in his veins.

He wondered why that was.

She inhaled a deep breath. "Say it."

"I will put a bullet between his eyes."

Lady Leonora flinched at the words. "Why? Why would you do that? You would be risking yourself. Dueling is illegal, and--"

"The law is not always about right and wrong," Drake snapped in a tone he immediately regretted. He watched Lady Leonora's gaze go wide, but he knew that she needed to hear what he had to say. "You know as well as I do that even if it were discovered what gentleman attacked you that night, if it became publicly known, you would be the only one to suffer. Yet, you did nothing wrong."

Lady Leonora hung her head. "I should not have left the house that night. I should not have gone to the masquerade in the first place. I should not have wandered off without my sister. I should not have--"

"Perhaps not," Drake agreed, waiting until she lifted her gaze once more. "Yes, I suppose it is fair to say that you made a mistake. Still, does that mean that any woman out on her own is fair game? Do we not live in a society where we are protected by our laws? Do we truly want to place blame on the victim instead of the attacker? Is that the world we wish to live in? Simply because it is so, it does not mean it should be." Shaking his head, Drake turned away. He needed a moment to collect his thoughts. Indeed, he had said more than he had intended to.

Her voice was soft when she suddenly spoke again, distant and coming as though from far away. "I still dream of that night," she whispered before she, too, turned away and stepped over to the window. "I still see that mask, black like most of the others that night. In my dreams, I sometimes find myself staring at it. When I finally work up the courage to reach for it, it moves away. I never can. It is always just out of reach, remaining firmly in place, hiding his face." A shiver shook her delicate frame, and Drake knew that it was not from the cold of the season.

This was my stay up till 4am to read in one sitting book. I could not put this one down. I just loved this story from the start. It was beautifully written and tells the story of broken souls trying to heal.

This is a tale of rehabilitation, for Leonora to find again her old self. A lovely slow burn romance of two persons who quietly fall in love with the other.

Beautiful Storyline!

Hauntingly beautiful story, which drew me in from the very beginning. Drake has suffered grief in his personal life which allows him to recognize similar trauma in others. When he meets Lenora, he is sure she has been very hurt by someone and is determined to protect her. These wonderful characters build a friendship which allows Lenora to gain back some self confidence and the attraction which grows steadily between them is stirring to see. I loved this book and highly recommend it to Regency lovers everywhere.

Two Souls Who Understand Each Other

Leonora Beaumont has a frightening secret. Upon meeting Leonora, Drake Shaw is pretty sure he knows what she's hiding. What happens next is one of the most sensitive love stories I have ever read.

Once Upon a Temptingly Ruinous Kiss by Bree Wolf is a well written and sensitively woven love story that is sweetly passionate. All of the main characters are not only likable, but they are also believable, and the ending is tender and smile worthy.

Content 411: Although there is no sex or swearing in this book, there are a few passionate kissing scenes, as well as some abuse of a woman.

A Protector Who Understands Her Turmoil

Wonderful story filled with drama, suspense and of course romance. I love this Whickerton family and their close relationship to one another. To all in the family it is obvious that something is troubling Lady Leonora, as she closes herself off from them. The only people who know what really happened to her, are her sister Louisa and new brother-in law Phineas and her grandmother. Her story actually began in Book 1 Once Upon a Devilishly Enchanting Kiss when Louisa and Leonore secretly attended a masquerade ball. An unknown man attacked Leonore leaving her in a constant state of anxiety and fear especially of every man that tries to come close to her. This story takes place about a year later when the family attends an annual house party- she meets a man that doesn't make her feel afraid but actually safe and protected. He seems to look right into her and understands the turmoil she is experiencing even offering to avenge her.

DRAKE SHAW, MARQUESS OF PEMBERTON's , life changed when a terrible tragedy happened in his family. Since that day, he determined to not walk blindly through life but to be aware of the people in pain around him. He lives to avenge the abused women of the Ton going so far as to duel with the men who prey on the people they should be protecting. When his school friend Phineas Hawke invites him to a Christmas house-party, he meets Leonore and can see the fear that lies deep within her. Offering to avenge the wrong done to her might not be easy since she has no idea who the man is that attacked her.

The story takes off from there and has so many different layers to it. I enjoyed watching the protector become so much more as Leonore came to trust and depend on her relationship with Drake.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

Amazing!

"Once Upon A Temptingly Ruinous Kiss" by the fabulous, fantastic Bree Wolf is another 6 out of 5 stars. It is the second book in the Whickerton in Love series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Lady Leonara Beaumont and Drake Shaw, Marquess of Pemberton share a certain something, that which disturbs them both, as well, as brings calm to them bu each other's sheer presence. This may be my new favorite book by Bree. She has taught me some self assurances and self defense just through her writing skills. An amazing book, an amazing story, an amazing author.

Great Series!

Leonora and Drake would make a wonderful married couple if only they could both overcome just one obstacle, their inability to be able to handle 'what if he/she doesn't feel the same way about me?'
Both have been very hurt in the past and as Drake finds teaches her how to protect herself, Leonora finds and learns to use an inner strength she never knew she had.
This is an amazing and touching love story with a whole cast of intriguing and endearing characters, except for one! Well, there has to be a villain too, of course!
This series is fast becoming one of my favorites and I definitely recommend it.
I read an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) and my voluntary review above reflects my own thoughts and opinions about it.
