He had rules; she had bare feet.
Nathanial Caswell has sworn off women, marriage, and especially love after his fiancée left him for another man. Left a broken man, he sees no beauty or hope in life, resigned to his sorrow. But everything changes during his brother’s wedding celebration when a determined woman with raven-black hair and insightful brown eyes makes an unexpected offer: her friendship.
Sometimes, a friend is just the beginning of the story.
Miss Charlaine Palmer sees the pain in Nathanial and knows just what he needs, and so, despite his reluctance, she remains persistent. Coaxing him out of isolation, she challenges him with playful teasing and spirited adventures—from masquerade balls to frog hunts, to walking barefoot in the summer grass. As Nathanial begins to laugh again, his blue eyes sparkling with newfound joy, Charlaine discovers her feelings might be deepening beyond mere friendship.
But is Nathanial ready to risk his heart again?
Yet Charlaine, never one to back down, isn't about to start now. She's determined to show Nathanial that life—and love—can begin anew, if only he's willing to embrace it.
Catch a frog, find a prince, fall in love—easy, right?

This delightful story is Nathanial and Charlaine's romance. Nathanial is so broken after his engagement to Abigail is ended by her giving his engagement ring to another man. Nathanial travels from Boston to England for his twin brother's wedding celebration. While at the party at Pembroke, Nathanial is introduced to Charlaine, Pierces ward. Charlaine is a free spirit and kind and compassionate to everyone. When she sees Nathanials pain, she reaches out to him and tells him she will be a true friend to him, no strings attached. Nathanial teaches Charlaine to dance and she teaches him how to enjoy life again and to learn to trust.
A wicked witch, actually a confused and thoughtless ex-fiancé, has turned Nathaniel into a frog. He has hopped across the pond to escape the pain of the broken engagement. Charlaine has lost her family in Jamaica to illness has come to England to be with family friends. They are both somewhat lost and in need of a friend.
This is a cute, heartwarming rendition of the frog to prince fairytale. Nathaniel is wary of becoming too close. Charlaine is a kind happy person, full of life, and is determined to change this frog into her prince. There are lots of friends and family to nudge the couple toward a happy ending. The flower girls are adorable. Of course, we all know that fairytales end in happily ever after. I enjoyed and recommend this story and the Happy Ever Regency series. I do wonder where Emma is going in such a hurry, and why is Lord Ashhaven holding her shoe?
I enjoyed the banter between the main characters. The heroine is trying to make sure her brother marries someone worthy of him so she infiltrates a hotel. The hero needs a wife to be more acceptable as a business owner. They come together for these reasons, but they may get more than they bargained for. This was a cute story.
I really loved this book, but of course I’m in love with each and every one of this author’s books. In this one I must confess that I related to Isabella so much! She’s somewhat of a control freak like me. And I totally understand that it’s hard to let it go. Actually, Rowan needed a woman who took control of his life and wrenched him from the shadows in which he was much too comfortable. He needed to be managed and he was! I really loved the side characters as well, because in Lane’s books they are always as gorgeously fleshed out as the main ones. And I especially loved the ladies, the old friends of the late Duchess, who are always helpful and funny. A gorgeous, five star read!!!
This has been such a wonderful series, and this has to be my favorite story yet! Isabella and Rowan are pure delight! The storyline is charming and the clever dialogue and banter between those two make for a most entertaining read. She is a Duke’s sister and he, a successful hotel owner, yet nevertheless a commoner. He could never be accepted by her world, but their hearts say otherwise. I was rooting for them all the way, and enjoying every page of their romance!
Rowan and Isabella’s story is a little strange for the time period and I completely enjoyed it. Well written with interesting characters and an outrageous plot. This story includes some fun bits and steam. Another fine addition to the series from this author.
This instalment covers the twins finding their futures while saving their brother from being blackmailed into marrying someone he does not love. Will Isabella be able to steal the evidence and accept gossip is not her whole life. Will Rowan realise what is in front of him & accept he is worthy of the place his adopted family have gifted him. I found this a really fun witty story. Isabella is quick of mind and saves the situation often, and the steam is also there between her and Rowan. Even the sneezing attacks was charming. Really enjoyed this story.
